Breda Wall Ryan was a person for whom I had the greatest love and admiration, as a kind friend and as a gifted poet.

Her advocacy for my and others poetry was gentle, authentic and authoritative. I never once heard Breda raise her voice (and there were times when it was warranted); she knew what to say and how to say it in poetry. I believe Breda was one of the best amongst us.

When we got the news last week, that Breda had been called away, many of us already gathered to remember her, though expecting it, were hugely shocked and saddened by her loss. My heartfelt condolences to all Breda’s family and friends.
